don't expect the cold night to get any warmer

even normal people

fight tooth and nail to stay sane sometimes

limping on is better than stopping

we learned young to keep up or get left behind

back before we wore clothes

and grunted with regional sophistications

most people have nothing to say

and say it loud and proud

kick over this tombstone of a century

make a picnic on the cold gray stone

toast the dead and rue the day we'll join them

better to laugh

bitter laughs

than never laugh at all
